Stan Lee Sues His Former Company Pow! Entertainment For $1B

Entertainment for fraud and conversion, claiming the company and two of its officers conspired to steal his identity, name and likeness in a "nefarious scheme" involving a "sham" sale to a Chinese company.

When Lee sold his company a year ago to Camsing International Holding in China, he said he was suffering from macular degeneration, which weakens eyesight. The suit calls the POW! duo "opportunists" who took advantage of the writer's eye problems and his "despondent state of mind" following the death of his wife Joan a year ago (18).

In Stan Lee's complaint filed in L.A. County Superior Court, it was indicated that Lee was asked by his business associates to sign a non-exclusive license with POW! Instead, what he purportedly signed was a "fraudulent" intellectual property assignment agreement that granted POW!

The complaint, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court and published by several United States entertainment media outlets, alleges that POW!

Lee's attorney said he does not recall anyone reading the Illegitimate Document to him, and, due to his advanced macular degeneration, he could not have read it himself. Apparently POW! had to get a sign-off from Lee to use his name, and he claims he never signed any contract.

"In addition, POW! took control of Lee's personal social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, thereby impersonating Lee before a combined 15 million followers worldwide", according to the lawsuit.

Lee has denied those claims too. The Marvel Comics icon later called on his fans to "protect and defend" him in a message where he also expressed how grateful he is to have gained back control of his Twitter account.
