Pilot and boy (7) killed in Offaly plane crash named locally

The seven-year-old boy who died in a plane crash in Co Offaly on Sunday has been named as Kasper Kacprzak.

The plane came down between Daingean and Edenderry after taking off from the Irish Parachute Club in Clonbullogue this afternoon.

A Garda spokesman said 16 parachutists were on board the aircraft.

All 16 are understood to have jumped from the craft, but it crashed a short time later. "There were two people on board, the pilot and a seven-year-old boy", he added. Their bodies were taken from the wreckage last night.

"I heard a awful roaring and it went straight down like a torpedo", Jimmy Slattery said. When it got near the tree line, I heard a thump then and that was it, that's all I can say.

Gardaí said last night that they would not be releasing the names of the victims until they were satisfied that all family members had been informed.
