Sridevi One Of The Best I've Worked With: Shekhar Kapur

When it comes to Indian cinema, Hindi films can not compete with other regional cinema that are churning out world-class content today, said filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as he announced the winners of the 65th National Awards.

Late Sridevi was posthumously awarded "Best Actress" at the 65th National Film Awards of India. She also won the best actress award in Goa past year for the International Film Festival in India for the film.

The major highlight in the award list was that of 19-year-old Bengali actor Riddhi Sen being named the best actor for his acting in the film 'Nagar Kirtan'.

Journalist Girdhar Jha won the best critic award, while Sunil Mishra received a special mention for best writing on cinema.

Though there is no one from the Malayalam film industry on the panel, Mollywood is hopeful of bagging some key awards this year. "My director and co-actors made it so easy for me to act in this film".

At the award ceremony, Jury Chief Shekhar Kapur had confessed that he had requested his fellow jury members to not to give the award to Sridevi.

Kapur says that giving awards also means that those films are meant to be seen and that it is important to not go by the words of film critics as they are more or less prejudiced. "Water Baby" directed by Pia Shah, won the Best Debut Film of a Director in the Non Feature Film category.

The jury, headed by filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, had handed over its recommendations to Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani yesterday.
