Guardiola admits Manchester United can still win Premier League title

Adding that John Stones will join Aguero in sitting out against Spurs, Guardiola continued: "I don't know [when Aguero will be back]".

City of course overhauled United's 8 point lead at the top of the table to lift the 2011/12 title, but surely 13 points in just six games is too much...isn't it?

THREE DEFEATS IN the space of a week have taken some of the gloss off a Manchester City side that was being pre-maturely hailed as one of the best club sides of all-time earlier this season.

"It can happen", said Guardiola.

"In the end, if we're not able to do it and United win the league, all we can say is "congratulations" to United, reflect on what we've done badly in the last month and move forward". Football is full of emotions, but what we have to try to do is focus and win our games against Tottenham, Swansea and after that the other ones.

"When I saw the pundits and the people in November, they say it's already done, it's impossible that City - if they don't lose in six months, three or four months - it's impossible for them to drop points".

City missed the chance to claim the title last Saturday when they were surprisingly beaten at home by second-placed Manchester United. In one week we lost three games, that happened.

"What I say to the players - and what they show every game - is that it is not done. But in football it can happen". We handled the pressure between the good and bad moments for the entire season, not just in this period.

Regarding how pressure is more intense when trying to seal the title, Guardiola said: "That will be good for our future, you have to handle that".

"Of course it can happen, I assure you", said Guardiola.

Aguero featured in City's last two games against United and Liverpool, coming as a second half substitute. Real Madrid, many years ago, lose six games in a row and didn't win the league.

"It can happen, no doubt about that". So we have to play tomorrow and after that we see the result from United. Cavaliers won against Golden State Warriors 4-3. "We don't depend on anyone else, and that's a good advantage", said Guardiola.

Barring a scenario in which City record five losses and a draw while one of Liverpool or Spurs wins all six of their remaining matches by huge scorelines, that leaves us with one semi-realistic contender.

But the Premier League leaders were hard done by, according to their manager, after seeing goals ruled out in both legs, with Guardiola sent to the stands for remonstrating with the referee when Leroy Sane had a goal ruled out at the Etihad Stadium.
