Scott, who has won two gubernatorial elections very narrowly in two strongly pro-Republican years, is term-limited. "People ask me that a bunch of times, about 'Are you this or are you that?' No".

Nelson has represented Florida in the Senate since 2001. Washington is exhausted. And the truth is, both political parties share some of the blame. He says Washington is a "disaster" and is calling for congressional term limits.

"Instead of creating the jobs our state needs for the future, over half the counties in Florida are worse off today than before the recession".

The race is widely expected to set a spending record for a Florida political races, to be substantially higher than the $110.5 million spend between all candidates two years ago when Sen. "It's dysfunctional. There is a lot of old, exhausted thinking up there", Scott said.

Rick Scott speaks after the end of the legislative session at the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee, Fla., Sunday, March 11, 2018. Bill Nelson at an event for ODC Construction in Orlando. We don't need another politician in Washington. Critics say one of his misses was environmental issues along with Medicaid.

Some predict Scott, a multimillionaire who has self-funded past campaigns, will amass upwards of $100 million for his Senate bid, forcing Democrats to spend generous sums in Florida's 10 media markets.

Democrats, meanwhile, have been anticipating Scott's campaign for months and have already ramped up their criticism, noting that Scott was forced out as chief executive of Columbia/HCA amid a federal fraud investigation.

The governor has also made national headlines for leading Florida during Hurricane Irma late previous year and the recent deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., which has elevated the debate over gun policy.

Scott sought to paint himself as an outsider and vowed to "shake up Washington" if elected in November, without naming Nelson during his speech.

Janson Manso is also a supporter of President Trump and would like to see Scott in the Senate to support him.

Puerto Rico Lt. Gov. Luis Rivera-Martin called Scott "a good friend of Puerto Rico, a good friend of all Hispanics".

Democratic political strategist Steve Schale predicted the race would be close and that Trump's popularity could play a role.

One emerging complication for Scott is his relationship with Sen.

Ketha Otis, a Vocational Rehabilitation Technician and president of AFSCME Local 2862, said that she and her fellow state employees are not going to let the two-term governor "falsely portray his slash and burn record". "He's going to have access to a lot of money in the campaign, so this is going to be definitely Senator Nelson's toughest campaigns", she said.
