A man was charged with driving under the influence after a bus he was driving to the Masters golf tournament overturned Thursday, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

The Georgia State Patrol says Hoppenbrouwer was driving 18 Masters patrons Thursday from Atlanta to Augusta when the bus left the road, spun and overturned on Interstate 20. The driver ran off the right side, then overcorrected before the bus overturned in the median, according to a patrol news release. The driver, later identified as Steven F. Hoppenbrouwer, was from Ginnett Co., has since been charged with a DUI and failure to maintain the lane. At this time, at least seven people have been taken to a local hospital. The station reports seven other people are either in fair or critical condition at another hospital.

Augusta University Medical Center told the network that they have received seven patients from the accident.

"We know that there are multiple injuries", Columbia County sheriff's Lt. John Sherman said. WhitePages.com showed there were two places listed as Hoppenbrouwer's residence as of March. The company is based out of Suwanee, according to its website.

The Georgia State Patrol said 18 people were aboard. He said passengers told authorities the bus had drifted off the edge of the road twice before it veered a third time and crashed.

The crash blocked Interstate 20 in both directions about 15 miles (25 kilometers) from the tournament at Augusta National Golf Club along a major route from Atlanta, where many golf fans fly in before driving the last leg.
