NFL Network reported that Solder, who is a free agent, has made a decision to leave the New England Patriots and play for the Giants rather than the Houston Texans.

The New York Giants were able to grab one of their top free agent targets by signing former New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder. The Hall of Fame-bound quarterback should feel more comfortable with Solder holding down the left side in 2018 and beyond.

The NFL's new year has begun, clearing the way for a flurry of free agent signings and trade announcements.

The New York Giants surely weren't demoralized after losing out on All-Pro left guard Andrew Norwell to the Jacksonville Jaguars. If the Giants can sign guys on the offensive line, then maybe Eli Manning won't be on his back that much. The idea of also trading Flowers has also been floated around as well. The 2011 first-round pick out of Colorado will be the NFL's highest-paid lineman. He was a right tackle as a rookie. For some National Football League free agents, who called Foxboro home in 2017, there was most likely a bit more to it than that. Per Rapoport, the deal is 4 years for $62 million dollars with $35 million in guarantees. Dion Lewis and Malcolm Butler both signed with the Tennessee Titans for monster deals. Last night a small piece of good news was delivered: The Patriots will re-sign core special teamer Nate Ebner to a two-year deal.

The cornerback was well-respected in the Patriots' locker room and played last season under a $3.9 million tender offer. They have Marcus Cannon at RT, with backups Cameron Flemming and LaAdrian Waddle also free agents.

It's worth considering things might be completely different right now if the Patriots would have won Super Bowl LII, as winning does always seem to cure everything, but there's no denying this has been a unusual offseason for the Patriots.

In the last reveal on February 19, UConn, Mississippi State, Louisville and Notre Dame were projected as No. 1 seeds. The first team out was Notre Dame, which played much of the season without its injured senior star Bonzie Colson .

Solder's departure is the team's biggest blow in free agency thus far.

Solder turns 30 in April, but is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots. Fleming started at left tackle against Houston when Solder started at tight end.
