The party may have won only two seats in Meghalaya but it has succeeded in disrupting its rival Congress from forming the government.

Meanwhile, the IPFT sought a respectable representation for its MLAs in the new state government, a day after the party and the BJP swept the Assembly polls, ending the 25-year Left Front rule in the state.

In the 60-member Nagaland assembly, 31 lawmakers are needed to form the government.

He squarely blamed Joshi for the party failing to win a single seat in the state.

Another Congress leader felt the BJP would "pay dearly" for banking on former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, as he had earlier been jailed.

"Though the BJP secured only two seats, we have 10 per cent vote share and we came second in as many as seven constituencies besides at least in two constituencies in Garo Hills, the winning margin of the opponent was very less", Sarma told reporters.

From being an insignificant player in the Northeast's politics, the BJP has come a long way since its emphatic win in the national parliamentary polls almost four years ago.
