The anniversary model might have sold well during the holiday quarter, but most people who wanted to buy the iPhone X have already purchased it. For now, Samsung Display is the sole supplier for the current iPhone X. Samsung Electronics uses OLED for nearly 70 percent of smartphone models. As a result, demand has declined dramatically in the current quarter.

As the Nikkei Asian Review reports, Samsung invested $12.6 billion past year in anticipation of increased demand for Apple products following the iPhone X release. That's a significant drop compared to the initial goal of 45 million to 50 million iPhone panels.

Although the South Korea based tech giant hasn't defined the production target of its OLED displays for the upcoming quarter, Nikkei says that it will be much lower than the previous quarter.

The plant that pumps put display panels for Apple could see its output fall by over half, according to the report, and Samsung is trying to grab orders from other manufacturers to compensate for the shortfall. It means we could see more mid-range Android smartphones with OLED screens in the near future.
