High Ohio River Brings Flood Warning

The Burlington area surrounding the Fox River remained under a flood warning Tuesday afternoon as the National Weather Service predicted the river to rise to near flood stage by Wednesday afternoon.

"A few areas have seen over 2 inches of rain as of 8 AM, and most spots are around 1.5" of rain.

It's going to feel like spring for a couple days.

The state's western, central and northern regions are included in the threat area, according to the National Weather Service in North Little Rock.

As of 7:30 a.m. this morning, the river gauge on the Yellow River indicated the river level was 11.16 ft. The weather service predicts up to six inches of rain throughout the week, which could cause lowland and river flooding to develop.

Flash flooding is a major problem associated with severe storms and other weather systems.

Flash Flood Watch in effect for the NW half of the area through Wednesday night.

A high temperature of 63 degrees is predicted for Tuesday, with highs in the lower 60s on Wednesday. Low lying and poor drainage areas prone to flooding will be most susceptible. A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding with the current forecast.

Light rain is likely early Tuesday. Ongoing rain will begin to mix with sleet and snow after 4:00 AM, making the roads that much more treacherous.

Most of the OH and Mississippi River Valleys will flooding rains this week. Rainfall totals are expected between 3 and 6 inches, with some isolated higher amounts possible.
