Smucker Company initiates voluntary withdrawal of specific dog food

Kibbles 'N Bits is recalling several shipments of dog food due to the possibility of euthanasia drug pentobarbital in the food.

Though the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) bans pentobarbital in animal meat for animal or human consumption, pet food consumer advocate Susan Thixton told the outlet that tragically, such substances often end up in pet food.

"I was a little surprised, but at the same time you hear all sorts of stuff about what is and what isn't in dog food", said Sam Porach, pet owner.

Once Talula's cause of death was identified, horrified citizens launched an independent investigation, partnering with Ellipse Analytics, a lab that specialises in testing food for contaminants, and tested 62 samples of wet dog food for the euthanasia drug. She sent the rest of the dogs' food and the remains of one of the dogs for testing, where the dog was found to have been poisoned by dog food and that the food contained pentobarbital, WJLA reported last week.

Smucker's said the low level of the drug found in the food does not pose a threat to pets, but admit it's not acceptable.

He later managed to get citizenship and a passport of the country in the name of Salim Khan, through fake papers. Pramod Singh Kushwaha, DCP, Special Cell Delhi Police addressed the press meet as informing.

"We will continue to work closely with our suppliers and veterinarians to ensure the ingredients used in our products meet or exceed all regulatory safety standards and our high-quality standards", said the Ohio-based company.

The FDA is also conducting an investigation into the tainted pet food supply.

A product recall at the consumer level has not yet been initiated and as of Thursday morning neither Smucker nor any agencies in the government revealed whether any of the dog food implicated had reached retail store shelves where consumers had access to purchase it.
