Rowdy family booted from ship after cruise turns into brawl

Disturbing footage has emerged of a violent brawl on a cruise ship involving passengers and crew, one of a series of fights that forced terrified families to cower in their cabins.

His 20-year-old son said "a lot of people are bleeding, a lot of people down".

One branded it the "cruise from hell".

3AW said there were reports that up to 30 people were injured.

It's believed days of fighting on board the Carnival Cruise Line ship preceded the big brawl and Friday's unscheduled stop to offload the family at Eden on New South Wales' south coast.

A group of cruise passengers on the Carnival Legend have been behaving badly onboard by terrorizing other guests, getting into fights and making threats.

A woman on vacation with her family says certain passengers "looking for trouble" were responsible for fights seen over several days.

'He said, "Please Dad, please, call the Federal Police",' he added.

One horrified holidaymaker told Nine News they are genuinely frightened of the offending guests and are hesitant to leave the safety of their room.

Footage taken by a passenger has surfaced online of a brawl that broke out in a restaurant area on the ship.

Women can be seen caught up in the fighting too, with one instance of a woman attempting to shield a male in a head lock from the repeated kicks of a security guard lunging over him.

Carnival's Legend cruise ship was a floating nightmare, passengers reported. The captain refused to take them any further.

Mr Myrmell refused to answer questions regarding ship staff, who reportedly became "heavy handed" with passengers filming the incident, but stated that "excessive behaviour is not tolerated, of any kind", and that an internal investigation is underway.

"Bloodbath" is not a word you'd typically associate with a 10-day cruise around the South Pacific.

Operators Carnival said a "family group of passengers" had to be removed from the ship.

Police are investigating and have said the family were taken to Canberra where arrangements were made to return them home.

"The ship's highly-trained security staff have taken strong action in relation to a small group of disruptive guests who have been involved in altercations on board", a statement said.
