Officer slain, deputies wounded, suspect dead near Atlanta

Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer said the shooting happened Friday morning when the two deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on an unidentified man at a residence in Locust Grove. the sheriff said that after talking to the suspect for about 10 minutes, they realized they would have difficulty arresting the man.

He said gunfire erupted as the deputies were trying to take a male suspect into custody on a warrant from the municipal court in Locust Grove.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes watched on as police officers escorted children home in the Hawthorne at Linden Park subdivision in Locust Grove.

A news conference was scheduled for 2 p.m. local time, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said on Twitter.
