China to have bigger footprint than Russia — CIA director

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said he fully expects Russian Federation to seek to interference with the 2018 midterm elections as they did in 2016.

During an interview on Tuesday, Pompeo said China is intent on stealing USA secrets and has far more potential to do more damage due to the large scale of the country's economy.

President Trump himself has been reluctant to acknowledge the Kremlin's interference in the 2016 election.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) head said the Chinese efforts were not restricted to the U.S. alone, and extended to Europe, including Britain.

"The Chinese have a much bigger footprint upon which to execute that mission than the Russians do", he said.

The spy chief's comments came in the wake of the arrest this year of a former Central Intelligence Agency officer charged with retaining classified information. "He is curious in the sense he wants to understand why we believe them".
