Mullen will be introduced as UF's 25th head football coach at 3 p.m.

The Florida Gators officially hired Dan Mullen Sunday night, and the reported amount of his contract would make Mullen one of the highest paid coaches in the SEC.

Some might be concerned about whether Mullen has the ideal personality to bring genuine buzz to Florida football, but should Gator fans really care as long as he fixes the offense?

Mullen replaced former UF coach Jim McElwain, who was sacked October 29 and making $4.5 million a year.

Still, the 45-year-old Mullen has a resume that's hard to ignore. When the Bulldogs receive a bowl invitation next week, it will be their eighth under Mullen.

He clearly overachieved at Mississippi State, which had lost at least eight games in seven of the eight seasons before Mullen's arrival.

Mullen is best known for developing quarterbacks. He played a substantial role in the college careers of Alex Smith (Utah), Tebow (Florida), Dak Prescott (Mississippi State) and current Mississippi State starter Nick Fitzgerald.

Still, Florida remains one of the more attractive jobs in college football.

Mullen's hiring Sunday ended a four-week process to replace Jim McElwain that left Gator Nation drained of energy. Throw in being surrounded by some of the top recruiting strongholds in the country, and Florida seems poised for a quick fix.

So, that leads the Gators to Mullen, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.
