Temperatures are expected to begin falling on Friday, when highs will be 10 degrees lower than Wednesday in several areas, but still above the norm.

Thanksgiving Day brought record high temperatures across the region.

Fresno reached 76 degrees in the 3 o'clock hour Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Pentagon issues data on sexual assault reports at its bases
The department reported that prevalence rates among active duty women went from 6.1 percent in 2012 to 4.3 percent previous year . The Air Force changed from 1,009 reports in 2015 to 1,043 in 2016, while the Navy went up from 1,243 in 2015 to 1,285 in 2016.

Luckily for firefighters, who will be on high alert with the soaring temperatures, strong winds that typically trigger red flag warnings are not expected, he said.

The weather service said the record high for the day in Fresno is 77 set in 1980. It will be cooler than Wednesday - especially along the coast - but still hot and dry.

Temperatures ranged from the low to mid-80s in normally cooler coastal areas to the mid-90s in warmer valley areas.

The high in Billings reached 68 by early afternoon on Thursday, besting the previous record of 65 degrees set on November 23, 1942. That's a little chilly by late November standards, as our average high for this time of year is around 50 degrees, yet lighter winds should mean that there won't be much of a wind chill.

In Orange County, a high of 81 is expected in Newport Beach, which would tie a record set in 2002, while the expected high of 91 in Santa Ana Thursday could tie a record set in 1950, said NWS meteorologist Greg Martin.

Records were also set by midday in Long Beach, where the temperature reached 91 and topped the 2015 record of 88. A shower or two may precede its passage later in the day, but Saturday will still probably be the better weekend day in terms of sunshine and temperatures.
