United Nations dismisses Saudi conditions to reopen Yemen port

He added: "We believe that there should be a more robust verification mechanism in Hodeidah port and we want to work with the United Nations".

Al-Mouallimi also accused the Houthis of diverting humanitarian aid "to fulfill their own requirements" and "to trade in the black market and achieve exorbitant profits at the expense of the Yemeni people".

Over two years ago, Houthi fighters dislodged the Saudi-allied president Abd-Rabbu Mansur Hadi, who later fled to Saudi Arabia.

There was worldwide outcry last week when Saudi Arabia blockaded the country's ports after a missile was sacked towards its territory by the Houthi rebels.

After a November 4 ballistic missile attack near the Riyadh global airport by Houthi rebels, Saudi Arabia had announced it shut down all ports in Yemen.

"I would like to draw your urgent attention to the extremely appalling situation in Yemen, caused by aggression, indiscriminate targeting of civilians and a blockade, imposing intolerable suffering on the Yemeni people", Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote, calling for worldwide action to end the mass destruction in Yemen, according to a transcript of his remarks posted on the Foreign Ministry's website. The Saudi closure had drawn global condemnation and fears of a worsening humanitarian disaster in Yemen.

Houthi rebel leaders said on Tuesday that the radio navigation system at Sanaa International Airport had been destroyed in a Saudi airstrike.

It says those ports are in Aden, Mocha and Mukalla.
