The outage in WhatsApp was caused by a software code bug and was not because of the issue from the data centre. In India alone, the number of smartphone users who utilize the service of this app adds up to more than 200 million monthly active users.

Thousands of users were forced to switch to other social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to either report or complain about the glitch. In May this year for example WhatsApp suffered a major four hour outage around the world. We hope the development team behind Facebook-owned messaging app finds out the reason for the crash soon enough and mitigates any such instance in the future.
