Tropical Storm Philippe Leaves Thousands Without Power on the East Coast

Heavy rain and strong winds were forecast to spread from North Carolina into the Northeast on Sunday, with peak impacts of the storm beginning to intensify by Sunday night, the Weather Channel reported. Maximum wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour are possible with the strongest winds coming overnight and through the morning.

Fierce winds and torrential rain downed trees and knocked out power across the U.S. Northeast on the 5th anniversary of deadly Superstorm Sandy, halting trains during the Monday morning commute and darkening neighborhoods from Boston to Washington.
