Halep finally seemed to get on the scoreboard after she earned her first game point in the match, but Wozniacki was just too solid as she sealed the first set 6-0 against the current top-ranked player.

Caroline Wozniacki said she couldn't quite believe how well she played in her emphatic victory over world No 1 Simona Halep yesterday, a result that ensured the Dane a place in the last-four of the WTA Finals in Singapore. The wall that the Dane often puts up at the back of the court, thanks to her stunning defence, is proving as impenetrable as ever here.

When her back was against the wall, there were some awesome shots coming from the Frenchwoman, including a nifty one-handed backhand - which was quite the favourite. And the one-handed backhand, I was like, trying to be so much like careful, and I made it. [I hit] one [before]. "I'm pretty proud of myself (laughter)".
