CM slams BJP's opposition to 'Mersal'

Mr. Riyas said that party leaders threatening the film's producer and demanding that it be re-censored pose a challenge to freedom of expression.

BJP representative Tamilisai Soundararajan, had on Thursday, demanded that some of the scenes be cut, which was backed by Union Minister of state Pon Radhakrishnan.

In response, Murali Ramaswamy, whose company produced the film, suggested he may succumb to the political pressure. According to Deccan Chronicle, Mersal has accumulated Rs 22.5 crore on its first day from Tamil Nadu theaters alone.
