United States bombers, Japanese fighter jets conduct drill over Korean Peninsula

The exercises came hours after a South Korean lawmaker claimed North Korean hackers had stolen a large cache of military documents from his country, "including a plan to assassinate North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un, and wartime contingency plans drawn up by the US and South Korea", reports the BBC.

However, North Korean hackers have been suspected to have previously targeted rival South's power grids with wiper malware. The South Korean defence ministry has so far refused to comment on the breach, which reportedly dates back to last September.

In a move expected to anger North Korea, the bombers took part in firing drills with South Korean F-15K fighter jets over waters to the east and west of the peninsula.

Meanwhile, China - North Korea's closest ally and trading partner - expressed alarm at how far the rhetoric on both sides had gone, warning of the increased risk of a "fatal misjudgement"."The global community won't accept North Korea as a nuclear power".

And North Korea has denied this, and accused South Korea of "fabricating" the claims.

The cybersecurity company FireEye says in a new report to private clients, obtained exclusively by NBC News, that hackers linked to North Korea recently targeted US electric power companies with spearphishing emails.

Visits by US warships and bombers along with regular joint exercises with the South infuriate North Korea, which considers them a sign of aggression and a rehearsal for an invasion.

South Korean and US government officials have been raising their guard against more North Korean provocations with the approach of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of North Korea's ruling party, which fell on Tuesday. He revealed that around 235 gigabytes of military documents had been stolen from the Defence Integrated Data Centre, and that 80% of them have yet to be identified.

It would mark the first such talks since the U.S.
