GM Opting for Electric, Ditching Combustion Engines

GM's foray into the electric marketplace has already resulted in resounding success, with the Chevy Bolt being named Motor Trend's 2017 Car of the Year and the 2017 North American Car of the Year. A lot of countries have been approving laws that will decrease the use of fuel cars for the sake of a better future. For instance, while battery electric is one strategy, as per the Bolt EV, GM is also looking to hydrogen fuel cells.

The company will roll out new electric vehicles over the next 18 months and a total of 20 by 2023.

The two new GM electrics in the immediate future likely will be SUVs or a sportier auto created to compete with Tesla's upcoming Model 3 sedan, Reuss said. "Although that future won't happen overnight, GM is committed to driving increased usage and acceptance of electric vehicles through no-compromise solutions that meet our customers' needs".

GM stock traded up about 4% in the noon hour Monday, at $42.01 in a 52-week range of $30.21 to $42.48, a new high set this morning.

"Tata Motors won the tender and will now supply the electric vehicles in two phases", Energy Efficiency Services Ltd, an arm of the ministry of power, said in a statement on Friday.
