Numerous breaks early in the game fell toward the Red Raiders and they took advantage.

OSU took the lead on their next possession, with Rudolph scrambling and finding Jalen McCleskey wide open in the back of the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown to make it 21-14 Cowboys with 3:49 to play in the first half. Then, junior punter Dominic Panazzolo's punt was blocked by Oklahoma State, putting the Cowboys on Tech's 9-yard line.

DaMarcus Fields returned an interception 97 yards for Texas Tech's first points, and Justin Stockton and Desmond Nisby had consecutive 1-yard runs to get the Red Raiders even at 34.

On the drive following the interception, Oklahoma State moved the ball well again, only to have Matt Ammendola wind up missing a 22-yard field goal that bounced off the upright. The ball sailed high and defensive back DeMarcus Fields intercepted it and raced back 95 yards for the game-tying touchdown. Texas Tech is an unlikely 3-0 and not because it has beat up on hapless non-conference opponents. A 26-yard pass to Marcell Ateman moved the Cowboys to the Texas Tech 48-yard line. He, James Washington and Jaylen McClaskey form one of the best wide receiver units in college football.

Miami Dolphins Jay Ajayi ready for his "home" game
He was always available for Brees, and on the opening drive that ended in a missed field goal he had six touches out of 13 plays. However, the deadlock was finally broken when Lutz's 43-yard field goal put New Orleans 3-0 up on the final play of the half.

Senior quarterback Nic Shimonek finished the game with 330 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception. The touchdown pass capped off an eight play, 80-yard drive with 14:14 left in the second quarter.

Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State will be broadcast on FOX.

It was a game as entertaining as it was expected to be, with several players - including Oklahoma State running back Justice Hill (164 rushing yards) - looking like the difference makers at various points.

Tech attempted to make it towards another touchdown but had to settle for a field goal instead with more than six minutes left in the quarter.

Nic Shimonek completed a 25-yard pass to Antoine Wesley at midfield before four straight incompletions that clinched the win for the Cowboys.

He came into the game averaging 27.4 yards per catch and 130 yards per game for the Cowboys. He was also consistently pressured by the OSU defensive front and seemed to hurry his passes, like on the pick he threw right after Tech got the ball back on an onside kick early in the fourth quarter with Tech trailing 34-27.

Still, the Red Raider offense couldn't capitalize. They consistently rolled down the field with little resistance, finishing every first half drive in the red zone.

"We lost. It doesn't feel good at all", Shimonek said.
