The U.S. Department of Homeland Security cited concerns about possible ties between unnamed Kaspersky officials and the Kremlin and Russian intelligence services. According to Kaspersky, the firm has over 400 million users around the globe.

In a statement sent to Fox News, Kaspersky Lab denied any involvement with the Russian government. It is not clear why the USA government decision has just now been made to stop using the Kaspersky software.

Duke directed all US federal agencies and departments to stop using products or services supplied directly or indirectly by the Russian-owned and operated company.

The New York Times reports that the federal government took action on Wednesday to remove all software created by the Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab from us government computer systems. Kaspersky's software is widely used by state governments, but also ordinary Americans. "No credible evidence has been presented publicly by anyone or any organization as the accusations are based on false allegations and inaccurate assumptions, including claims about the impact of Russian regulations and policies on the company".

The U.S. government action raised the question of whether those users should follow the U.S. government's lead.

The Order won't affect the company too much because Kaspersky Lab "had very few sales to U.S. government organisations", Kaspersky tweeted earlier today. However, the Defense Department and intelligence agencies generally do not use Kaspersky software and have not for a number of years. It said Thursday that it will continue to get its product to customers "through its website and other prominent retailers". He told Engel his company has had "zero contact with the offensive agencies in Russian intelligence". Best Buy has also announced that it will no longer sell Kaspersky software.

However, there is a simple reason Hill was not let go and Schilling was and it only marginally has to do with politics. An ESPN spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Sanders calling for Hill to be fired.

Washington's recent attacks on Kaspersky Lab is seen by Moscow as an attempt to undermine efforts to rebuild a working relationship to combat terrorism and to initiate unfair competition in the information field and software market.

"The goal of this hearing is to conduct oversight of the cybersecurity posture of the federal government, and examine the extent to which the federal government utilizes your company's products", Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Ill.), chairman of the subcommittee on oversight, wrote in the letter to Kaspersky. "This wasn't an easy action for the U.S. government to take, and it will also have significant ramifications for corporations that use Kaspersky", explained Hamerstone, who is the Practice Lead for the Governance, Risk, and Compliance division at security consultant TrustedSec.
