A series of predawn attacks Friday by suspected Rohingya militants in a restive area of Myanmar killed 11 army personnel and police officers, leaving a total of at least 70 dead on both sides, according to the government.

The commission's task became increasingly urgent after the army launched a bloody crackdown in the north of Rakhine following deadly October attacks on police border posts by a previously unknown Rohingya militant group.

Friday's attacks on at least 30 posts on the Bangladesh frontier in Maungdaw district were claimed by a group called the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).

The operation resulted with 87,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee to neighbouring Bangladesh and the military has been beset by allegations of killing civilians, rape and arson.

This was just a few hours after the Rakhine Advisory Commission released a report which suggested that the government in the country needed to improve economic development and social justice.

But if you have a chance to get everyone out there, playing together, playing with each other, you do it. A high-ankle sprain would likely leave Beckham out longer than four weeks. "That's a medical decision".

The attacks came a day after the United Nations called on the government to address the Muslim Rohingya crisis without "excessive force".

On Thursday, Myanmar government claimed that Rohingyas coordinated attacks on 24 police posts and tried to enter a military base.

Zaman said that thousands of unarmed civilians including women, children and elderly people from the Rakhine State had assembled close to the border and were making attempts to enter Bangladesh. "We must not allow our work to be derailed by the violent actions of extremists", she said.

So far, seven bodies of the terrorists have been recovered and security forces are in pursuit of other attackers, the statement said.

The Rohingya are a Muslim ethnic minority of Myanmar who live in the western state of Rakhine.

The Rohingya Muslims are unwanted by many in Buddhist-majority Myanmar and in neighbouring Bangladesh, which already houses tens of thousands of refugees.

Bangladesh's border guards pushed back 146 Rohingya refugees who were coming to the country in the wake of fresh tensions between Rohingya insurgents and Myanmar security forces.

Mr Annan said he was "gravely concerned" by the latest attacks.

However, global observers have also expressed concerns about the language and nature of statements by the government regarding the incidents, which sources in Rakhine say are fuelling hate against the wider Rohingya civilian community and other Muslim populations. Rohingya representatives have said approximately 400 people were slain during the operation.

Hla Kyaw, chairman of the European Rohingya Council, suggested the military had "manufactured this reality happening now in Rakhine state".
