The first full-length trailer for Eli Roth's Death Wish remake is here and it looks pretty damn solid! So by the end of the film he's really much closer to John McClane...

Charles Bronson starred in the original 1974 Death Wish film (in turn based on a 1972 Brian Garfield novel) as Paul Kersey (Paul Benjamin in the novel), a NY man who turns vigilante following the murder of his wife. Eli Roth, best known for his work on the horror film Hostel, will direct. The clip certainly promises a different tone from the classic film, but it also features the brutality of the original in the form of Roth's signature unflinching portrayals of violence. Granted some could argue the same for Bruce Willis, the man who has since landed the lead, but I believe he's capable of toeing that line.

The original 1974 Death Wish was, of course, a franchise-building success that rejuvenated the career of its star in the late veteran actor Charles Bronson with his unforgettable performance as Paul Kersey, a New York City architect and Korean War veteran put on a dark path of vigilante vengeance after a home invasion saw his daughter raped and killed and his wife left comatose. When the remake was in town back in September shooting for a few days (most of the film was shot in Montreal), Tribune film critic Michael Phillips wrote about "Death Wish" and its legacy.
