Moscow courthouse shooting: Three killed, two injured in gun attack

Three out the five GTA Gang members who disarmed the guards and opened gunfire in the Moscow region court have been killed, two others have been wounded and taken to hospital, spokeswoman for the Russian Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko told TASS on Tuesday.

The group reportedly managed to grab weapons from their escorts but then got into a firefight after being apprehended by officers from Russia's National Guard as they tried to quit the lift.

Russia's Investigative Committee said two guards were transporting five defendants in an elevator when one of the defendants tried to strangle a guard, The Associated Press reports.

One of the group had fought for S in Syria before coming to Russian Federation, official TV channel Rossiya 24 said on Tuesday, citing a source in law-enforcement bodies.

The two others defendants were seriously wounded, the statement said.

The suspects were blamed for being a piece of a gathering known as GTA Gang, named after the vicious diversion arrangement Grand Theft Auto.

Prosecutors said the gang members were placing spikes on roads, forcing the motorists out of their vehicles and shooting them dead.

The nine accused men, who are all from Central Asia, were charged with 17 murders and 2 attempted murders.

Reuters have reported that lawyer, Diana Tatosova, said that in the case of the 11 defendants in the Moscow court, four had been killed. The suspects died as they attempted to escape the courtroom.
