The "skinny repeal" bill - erasing several parts of President Barack Obama's law - was rejected just before 2 a.m. EST on a vote of 51-49.

Unable to pass even a so-called "skinny repeal," it was unclear if Senate Republicans could advance any health bill despite seven years of promises to repeal "Obamacare".

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer is praising the three Republicans who broke with their party to reject the GOP health care bill, especially John McCain.

It would also delay a medical device tax and defund Planned Parenthood for at least one year, while increasing grants to community health centers.

The Republican leadership had been trying to pass the bill by using the budget reconciliation process, which allows legislation to pass with a simple majority if it meets certain requirements, including reducing the budget deficit.

After the House passed a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare in May, McConnell grappled to get Republicans in the Senate to agree on their version of the bill.

Republicans have 52 seats in the 100-seat Senate, but their efforts failed as three Republicans, Senators John McCain, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, turned to Democrats.

The Croatian starts on the left side of the Inter Milan attack today with Antonio Candreva playing on the other side. Eden Hazard and Pedro are injured and that has forced Antonio Conte to find a new left winger for the team.

In the early morning hours, McConnell took to the Senate floor after the vote to indicate the Senate would move on.

Wes Gullett, the head of a Phoenix strategics communications firm who served as McCain's deputy campaign manager during his 2000 presidential bid, said he wasn't surprised there hasn't been a notable response from Arizona. He added, "I regret that our efforts simply were not enough this time". "The Swamp. But we'll get it done, we're going to get it done".

"Republicans in the Senate will NEVER win if they don't go to a 51 vote majority NOW", Trump tweeted.

"It's an uphill battle, but we found a way in the House", he said.

A Texas congressman said the female senators narrowly avoided an "Aaron Burr-style" showdown with him.

KEITH: So as you say, this piece of legislation, this thing that they were voting on, the so-called skinny repeal - many of them thought it was bad and didn't want it to become law.

The biggest health insurer lobby, America's Health Insurance Plans, sent a letter to McConnell reiterating that uncertainty over the healthcare system would drive premium rates higher for 2018.

Gov. Rauner Calls Special Session on Education Funding Bill
Governor Rauner wanted that senate bill delivered to his desk, which he plans to return with certain changes. We slowed down the process in the Senate in order to let everyone blow off some steam, politically-speaking.

"This is the beginning of the end for the disaster known as Obamacare", Trump said at a Rose Garden press conference after the vote. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of ME said no.

Trump also touted "Fox and Friends" in a tweet after an anchor held up an ad for the morning show that appeared in Thursday's New York Times.

"It took Democrats 50 years to socialize medicine", said Rep.

It's hard to imagine a more dramatic night unfolding over the fate of the Republican health care bill.

But Ryan says "we should not give up" after promising for years to repeal and replace "Obamacare". He said would only support a repeal bill that came with an adequate replacement plan and said the "skinny" repeal didn't do so. And he's made a number of statements suggesting that after a failure such as this, it would be a proper time to negotiate with Democrats and make health care law better. And now if Republicans want to get anything done on health care, they will have little choice but to return to regular order, and turn to Democrats.

"The "Skinny Bill" as policy is a disaster", Graham said.

New York Times Demands Apology From Fox News
On Sunday, the Times pushed back. "With this segment, Fox & Friends demonstrated what little regard it has for reporting facts". She said the online story was changed to reflect comment from the Times after the newspaper reached out.
