Anne Hathaway eyed for 'Barbie' movie after Amy Schumer drops out

Schumer recently pulled out of the project due to scheduling conflicts, leaving the role open for the taking.

It looks like Anne Hathaway is all set to live the life of a "Barbie" doll.

At the same time, rising Australian director Alethea Jones is in talks to helm the pic after being handpicked by Hathaway, who was integral in the search for a filmmaker.

Set to premiere next summer, Sony's upcoming live action film is set to tell the story of what happens after Baribe gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being ideal enough.

The movie is being produced by the husband/wife team of Walter Parkes and Lori MacDonald, along with former Sony studio chairman Amy Pascal (who bought the rights in 2014 while an executive).

According to the site, Sony still plans to stick to its June 29, 2018 release date, though it's not clear when production would start on the project. Even if Hathaway manages to make the role work around her schedule, she still hasn't officially accepted any offers.
