Syria says Israel strike kills civilians

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit says spillover fire from Syria occurred Saturday afternoon in the northern Golan Heights. In most cases, Israel has claimed to be targeting arms convoys or warehouses belonging to Hizbollah, a key supporter of the Syrian regime.

Syria's state news agency, quoting a Syrian army communique, alleged that the Israeli strikes coincided with an attack by militants in the area and suggested that Israel was aiding the Islamist forces, according to Reuters news agency. The Syrian army said it seemed the two attacks were coordinated and that the attack by Israeli military helicopters supported the Nusra Front's assault on a Quneitra suburb.

Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel believes the Assad regime is "accountable for what is happening on the ground and will continue to suffer the consequences".
