Calvin made landfall as a tropical storm approximately 37 mi (60 km) west southwest of Salina Cruz (pop. ~76,000), Oaxaca, at midnight UTC this morning, Tuesday June 13.

Tropical Depression Three-E is located about 75 miles east-southeast of Puerto Angel, Mexico, and is moving slowly northwestward toward the coast of southern Mexico. NASA's Aqua satellite captured a look at the depression just prior to its classification as a tropical storm. The storm has maximum sustained wind speeds of 29 miles per hour (46 km/hr), equivalent to a tropical depression on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale (SSHWS). Travis says this low will tug a large area of deep tropical moisture into the Gulf early next week, and our best computer models continue to suggest low pressure may spin up in this moisture over the western Gulf.
