Police were called at around 10.08pm to reports of a vehicle hitting pedestrians on London Bridge.

A white van was said to be traveling at about 50 miles per hour when it veered off the road and on to the sidewalk on the bridge late Saturday night and struck pedestrians, less than a month after the Manchester Arena was bombed.

Both locations are very close to each other on the south side of the Thames, though police have not confirmed if two incidents are related.

At 2:25 a.m., police announced the two incidents at London Bridge and Borough Market were "terrorist incidents". The BBC says more than one person has been killed.

London's Metropolitan Police said armed officers were at two scenes - on the bridge and the nearby Borough Market, a busy area of restaurants and bars. Police confirmed that shots were fired after they responded to these reports.

Police also said they were responding to another incident in the Vauxhall area, more than three kilometres away.

Witnesses have described seeing a speeding vehicle veer into crowds on London Bridge and people being stabbed in Borough Market.
