Former Tottenham man congratulates West Ham, praises one Hammer

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is yet to concede the title to Chelsea, but admits it will be "difficult" for his side after defeat at West Ham.

Manuel Lanzini's second-half strike gave West Ham a memorable 1-0 victory over their London rivals in a match Spurs needed to win to keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea. But, when their nine-match winning run in the Premier League came to an end on Friday, with it effectively went their title hopes.

Walker was then booked for a robust follow through on Lanzini as Spurs looked to launch a counter-attack, with Mark Noble clattering into Eric Dier shortly afterwards to even up that aspect of a feisty start.

"Nothing changes. We will try to finish strongly and after the way we finished last season, we want to put that right this season".

As they had done for most of the game, the Hammers nullified every attempt by Tottenham to breach their defence after that, and could have won by a bigger margin had they been more clinical.

Dier added: "We brought it [the deficit to Chelsea] back to four points but after today it's almost impossible now". We have only three games to reduce the gap.

Tottenham, meanwhile, won't play again until May 14 when they take on Manchester United.

Few people in either camp would have foreseen any other outcome, either, with West Ham limping towards the finishing line of what has been a torrid season.

West Ham, the first team to stop Tottenham scoring since Liverpool in early February, moved up to ninth with 42 points and are now mathematically safe.

"More important for me is not the goal though, it's that the team played very well".

Spurs managed just 11 attempts on goal during the London derby in Stratford, as Pochettino's side suffered only their fourth loss of the season.

"Now we're safe, if we get some more points we can finish only one or two places below where we were a year ago".

Chelsea need just two more wins to secure the title, and can get one when they face Middlesbrough this evening. "I think today I think we missed a bit of something".
