Halep got back on track in the decider, opening up a 5-2 lead and closed out the match comfortably to grab her 15th career title.

In the first game of the match Halep got broken, but then she broke back in the fourth game despite Mladenovic had six game points.

Sevastova went into the match without having dropped a set in the tournament but she proved no match for the Romanian who eased to a 6-2 6-3 success.

After taking the opener, Mladenovic did not face a break point in the second set. This year she won St. Petersburg, and has been runner-up at Acapulco and last week in Stuttgart, falling to Laura Siegemund 7-6 in the third set. The two met at the 2017 Indian Wells Masters where Mladenovic defeated Halep in straight sets.

Now Mladenovic was showing signs of back pain, and increasingly resorted to sliced replies on both wings, and Halep went on the offensive to take advantage. Could she recover enough to handle all the running she would need to do against Halep? Great spirit, attitude, great game.
