Microsoft detailed the new 'Windows 10 Fall Creators Update'

The tool, called Story Remix, will be part of a "Fall Creators Update" to roll out later this year to 500 million personal computers, smartphones and tablets powered by Windows 10. The Fall Creators Update, likely to arrive in September, aims to bring aspects of the Windows experience everywhere you go. The Creators Update was also originally going to integrate quick access to your favorite contacts into the taskbar; that feature has been delayed until the Fall Creators Update, too.

Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of the Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, speaking at the firm's Build developers conference today, said: "For the first time, Windows PCs will love all your devices".

This release of the Windows 10 SDK Preview Build, we have introduced the following new controls: NavigationView, TreeView, RatingsControl, ColorPicker, ParallaxView and PersonPicture to the Windows.UI.XAML.Controls namespace. It will enable applications to capture what a user is doing before they log out and let them pick up right from where they left off on another device.

With "pick up where you left off", if you're in, say, Word on your desktop, you should be able to pick up your (Android or iOS) phone and immediately continue editing.

Autodesk SketchBook, the de facto application for painting and drawing, was built from the ground up as a UWP app leveraging the pen and touch capability of Windows 10. With it, all users need is Visual Studio and their iPhone to get started building native apps for iOS in minutes. It is a next-generation board portal that leverages data from lines of business applications to provide a single source of truth for executives to steer the business in real time. Microsoft also announced it is working with SUSE Linux and Fedora Linux running on the Windows Subsystem for Linux to bring them to the Windows Store.

We don't have complete details of what will be in the update yet, but here's a taster and we'll let you know of any extra bits and pieces we get hold of.

That price is far more affordable than what Microsoft has been charging for another mixed reality headset called the HoloLens.
