Only PM Narendra Modi Can Resolve The Kashmir Unrest, Says Mehbooba Mufti

The Congress leader's fresh attack on the prime minister came after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that only Modi can resolve the Kashmir issue as he has a strong mandate and appealed to him to pull the valley out of morass.

Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti said "The prime minister has an intention of holding talks after the situation becomes normal". "The nation will support whatever he decide", a news report quoted Mehbooba as saying.

The meeting with PM Modi and HM Rajnath Singh comes in the wake of two Indian soldiers being mutilated by Pakistani forces in the Poonch sector and also the killing of five cops and two bank officials by terrorists in the Kulgam district of the state.

North Korea quiet amid expectation of missile follow-up
In recent months North Korea has refused to buckle to global pressure and continued to develop both its nuclear and test missiles. It launched a missile one day after the 105th birthday of late founder Kim Il Sung on April 15.

"The Modi government has already clarified in the Supreme Court that it would not hold any talks unless the violence stops in Jammu and Kashmir", BJP president Amit Shah told reporters in Agartala. "Woh jo faisla karenge, mulk support karega", she said.

The Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government has been fighting rising militancy and widespread violent protests in Kashmir since previous year following the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani. "Before him (Modi), a prime minister had also desired to go to Pakistan for over 10 years".

The CM was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a flyover here. "He was successful to a large extent in shortest of period", she Mufti said.

"But unfortunately my father was out of the government and Vajpayeeji left, and the process came to grinding halt", she said.

"Jammu has many tourist destinations and we are trying to develop them", she added.
